Wine Description for Barbaresco DOCG Rabajà Riserva 2020 by Vietti

Character
The Rabajà Riserva embodies Piedmontese wine culture in its most concentrated form. This Riserva from one of Barbaresco’s most prestigious single vineyard sites combines the structural power of great Nebbiolo wines with the aromatic finesse for which the Vietti estate has been renowned for generations. A wine of remarkable depth and longevity that reflects the craftsmanship of one of Piedmont’s most significant producer families.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Rabajà is considered one of Barbaresco’s four great crus – a south-westerly facing slope with calcareous marl soils that impart particular elegance and mineral tension to Nebbiolo. The cooler microclimate compared to Barolo favours the development of complex aromatics whilst preserving freshness. Vietti cultivates old vines here, whose deep roots capture the essence of this extraordinary terroir.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Nebbiolo – the capricious, late-ripening queen of Piedmont – demands patience and skill. As a Riserva, this wine was aged for at least four years, much of it in traditional wooden casks, which refines the tannins and gives the wine time to develop its characteristic complexity. Vietti understands how to maintain the balance between modernity and tradition: respectful handling of the fruit without sacrificing classical structure. The 2020 vintage benefited from ideal conditions – a year that unites concentration with elegance.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine for the Piedmontese table: Brasato al Barolo, Tajarin with truffle, aged Parmigiano Reggiano or game dishes such as venison or pheasant. It also harmonises beautifully with braised oxtail or mushroom risotto. The structure and complexity demand equally thoughtful, aromatically layered dishes.
