Wine Description for Autochthon White 2022 by Bencze Birtók

Colour & Appearance
Distinctly cloudy golden yellow – an honest declaration of this wine’s unfiltered nature. Nothing here is polished or contrived.
Nose
Initially closed and reductive – decanting is essential. Those who show patience will be rewarded: wild herbs such as sage, rosemary and mint make their way through, accompanied by a distinctive fruit character of wood pear, quince and grapefruit. Yeasty notes bear witness to the wine’s youth, along with ethereal hints of verbena and linden blossom. A nose of remarkable depth and individuality.
Palate
Here the true character of this wine unfolds: peach, salted lemon and an intense, almost electrifying minerality define the palate. The freshness is exuberant and captivating, the drinking flow simply seductive. At just 11.5% alcohol, this natural wine proves that elegance and energy are not a matter of weight.
Finish
Long, saline-mineral, with an invigorating aftertaste that calls for the next sip. A wine that doesn’t let go.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes grow on volcanic basalt soil at Lake Balaton – one of Hungary’s most fascinating terroirs. This subsoil shapes the wine’s distinctive minerality and cool tension in an unmistakable way.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A blend of the autochthonous Hungarian varieties Furmint, Hárslevelü and the rare Kéknyelü. The grapes are harvested at different stages of ripeness, fermented with minimal skin contact and subsequently aged in amphora – a natural wine in its most consequential form.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Ideal with grilled fish with herb marinade, goat’s cheese with honey, seafood or an antipasti platter with pickled vegetables and olives. The saline minerality makes it the perfect companion for everything the sea has to offer.
Special Characteristics
A wine that captures the wildness and individuality of Hungary in a bottle. No compromise, no calculation – only terroir, craftsmanship and three rare grape varieties that together tell a story greater than any could alone. For drinkers seeking wines that have something to say.
