Wine description for Vosne Romanée 1er Cru „Aux Brulées“ Vieilles Vignes AOC 2022 by Bruno Clavelier

Character
Bruno Clavelier belongs to that generation of Burgundy winemakers who place restraint and precision above opulence. His Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru „Aux Brulées“ from old vines embodies the finesse and depth for which this appellation is world-renowned. The 2022 vintage presents itself with that Burgundian elegance which unites tension and drinkability – a wine that whispers rather than shouts.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site „Aux Brulées“ lies in the heart of Vosne-Romanée, directly below the legendary Grand Crus. The name – „at the burnt lands“ – refers to historical land clearings. The calcareous soils with their fine clay topsoil impart that mineral structure and aromatic complexity which distinguishes Vosne-Romanée from other Burgundy villages. The 2022 climate brought concentrated yet fresh grapes with natural balance following a challenging summer. The old vines with their deep roots access soil layers that remain closed to younger vines.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir achieves its most sublime expression in Vosne-Romanée. Bruno Clavelier works with minimalist intervention: the old vines naturally yield concentrated, small-berried grapes. His vinification follows traditional principles – gentle extraction, measured use of new oak, time rather than technique. The result is wines that reflect the terroir transparently, without being overlaid by oenological artifice. At 13% alcohol, the wine preserves that lightness of foot which distinguishes great Burgundies.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine of this calibre demands equally considered cuisine: pigeon or wild duck with earthy accompaniments, Coq au Vin in its Burgundian homeland version, aged Époisses or Comté. It also unfolds its full finesse with mushroom dishes – morels, porcini – or braised veal sweetbreads. The structure also carries Asian flavours with soy sauce and ginger.
