Colour & Appearance

Luminous cherry red with delicate violet reflections and a lighter rim – a typical Nebbiolo transparency that promises elegance.

Nose

Surprisingly bright and delicate in its aromatic profile. Red currant, wild raspberry and sour cherry dominate, supported by barberries and currants. Subtle spice from white pepper, allspice and juniper runs through the bouquet. Dried Mediterranean herbs, discreet notes of cocoa butter and milk chocolate, along with fine hints of undergrowth and forest floor – restrained, yet meaningful.

Palate

Silky, almost Burgundian in its texture. The present acidity structure provides backbone without ever becoming intrusive. The tannin – gentle as rarely seen in Nebbiolo – displays itself elegantly and refined. Delicate, yet with conviction, the wine flows across the palate. In the finish, a fascinating transformation unfolds: the fruit becomes darker, spicier, more complex. Extraordinary depth and length.

Finish

Long, spicy and multifaceted. The dark fruit unfolds sustainably, carried by fine tannin and vital acidity. A wine that grows in the glass and has decades ahead of it.

Terroir & Origin

The vineyard site Ravera in Novello ranks among the great crus of Barolo. 2.4 hectares at 400 metres altitude, west to south-west facing, abundant calcareous marl. Vines with an average age of 35 years, the oldest stocks dating from 1935. Terroir that prioritises finesse over power.

Grape Variety & Vinification

100% Nebbiolo, harvested on 8th and 9th October 2020. Gentle pressing, three-week maceration in steel tank with permanent punch-down of the cap. Malolactic fermentation and ageing for nearly 30 months in large oak casks and barriques. Bottled unfiltered.

Food Pairing Recommendations

Crepinettes of lamb loin with savoy cabbage, turbot fillet with poached goose egg and morels, fettuccine with white truffle and egg yolk – classical Piedmontese cuisine at the highest level.
