Wine Description for Barolo DOCG Lazzarito 2020 3000ml Double Magnum by Vietti

Character
Vietti’s Barolo from the prestigious single vineyard site Lazzarito represents Nebbiolo in its most uncompromising form. The double magnum bottle size promises an exceptionally slow, harmonious development over decades. The Vietti estate ranks among the most tradition-rich producers in the Langhe and has combined respect for terroir with modern precision for generations. The 2020 vintage is considered classic and well-balanced in Piedmont, characterised by cool nights and sunny autumn days.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Lazzarito lies in the municipality of Serralunga d’Alba, the easternmost and highest-altitude Barolo region. The soils here are particularly chalk-rich and iron-bearing, producing wines of great structure and longevity. Serralunga Barolos are considered the most masculine and powerful of the appellation – wines that demand patience and reward with monumental depth. The continental climate with pronounced temperature fluctuations promotes the development of complex aromas whilst preserving the acid structure.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Nebbiolo is one of the world’s most demanding grape varieties – late-ripening, tannic-rich, high in acidity. Vietti pursues an approach that places the distinctiveness of the vineyard site at the forefront. Traditionally, a long maceration is followed by extended ageing in large wooden casks, which allow the wine time to integrate its tannins without masking the fruit. The result is a Barolo of architectural precision, combining power with elegance.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine of this calibre demands equally substantial dishes: Brasato al Barolo, braised game dishes, truffle risotto or aged Parmigiano Reggiano. The tannin structure harmonises perfectly with seared beef fillet or lamb rack with herb crust. In the Piedmontese tradition also excellent with Tajarin with ragù or Vitello tonnato.
