Wine Description for Gevrey-Chambertin „Les Corbeaux“ 1er Cru 2022 by Trapet Père & Fils

Character
A Premier Cru of quiet grandeur: „Les Corbeaux“ belongs to those vineyard sites in Gevrey-Chambertin that impress not with volume, but with precision and depth. The estate Trapet Père & Fils – one of the most tradition-rich addresses on the Côte de Nuits – practises a biodynamic approach that gives the wine expression without imposing direction. The vintage 2022 brought exceptional ripeness to Burgundy whilst maintaining remarkable freshness – a rare combination that particularly benefits Pinot Noir in this vineyard site.
Terroir & Origin
Les Corbeaux“ lies in the northern part of the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation, on the slopes of the Côte de Nuits. The vineyard site is characterised by chalky, clay-rich soils that give the wine structure and mineral backbone. The exposure and natural drainage of the hillside vineyards promote even ripening of the grapes. The 2022 vintage was marked by a warm, dry summer with cool nights – ideal conditions for concentrated, yet elegantly structured wines with vibrant acidity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir is at home in Gevrey-Chambertin like nowhere else in the world. At Trapet it is vinified with the greatest artisanal respect: biodynamic vineyard management, gentle hand-harvesting and ageing in barrique that prioritises terroir expression over oak spice. With 12.5% alcohol the wine remains elegant and approachable – a hallmark of winemakers who value elegance over extraction. The wine is dry (very low residual sugar) and should continue to develop beautifully with some years of cellar rest.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The fine structure and earthy foundation of the wine make it an ideal companion to classic Burgundian cuisine: Coq au Vin, braised game dishes or an Entrecôte with herb butter harmonise beautifully. Aged Époisses or Comté also create a fitting bridge to the terroir of the Côte de Nuits.
