Wine Description for Gevrey-Chambertin „Les Corbeaux“ 1er Cru 2022 by Trapet Père & Fils

Character
Domaine Trapet Père & Fils is among the most respected addresses in Gevrey-Chambertin and has stood for biodynamic viticulture and uncompromising quality for decades. This Premier Cru from the vineyard site Les Corbeaux embodies the philosophy of the house: restraint, precision and the unvarnished truth of terroir. With a moderate 12.5% alcohol content, the 2022 presents itself as an elegant, refined wine that expresses power through structure rather than opulence – an approach that is gaining increasing significance in times of climate change.
Terroir & Origin
Les Corbeaux lies at the southern end of Gevrey-Chambertin, below the Grand Cru Mazis-Chambertin. The vineyard site benefits from calcareous soils with a high stone content, which provide freshness and mineral tension. The 2022 vintage was characterised by heat and drought in Burgundy, yet old vines and biodynamic management helped the domaine produce wines of remarkable balance. The Trapet family tends their parcels with the greatest care and minimal yields, which is reflected in the concentration and depth of their wines.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir from Burgundy is the most demanding interpretation of this capricious grape variety. At Trapet, the grapes are hand-harvested, gently destemmed and fermented in open wooden vats. Ageing takes place traditionally in barrels with moderate new oak, so as not to overshadow the fruit and terroir. The result is wines of crystalline clarity that unite cherry fruit, earthy notes and a silky texture – classic Gevrey with the finesse and drinkability typical of Trapet.
Food Pairing Recommendations
This Premier Cru demands a cuisine that respects its elegance: Coq au Vin, duck breast roasted pink or venison loin with lingonberries are classic companions. It also harmonises beautifully with aged soft cheeses such as Époisses or a Bœuf Bourguignon. The fine structure makes it an ideal partner for mushroom dishes or truffle risotto as well.
