Wine Description for Terre de Vertus Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature 2017 by Larmandier-Bernier

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, shimmering golden yellow with a vibrant, fine-beaded mousse – a Champagne that radiates energy and precision even in the glass.
Nose
Freshly opened, this Champagne initially presents itself as compact and closed, almost introverted – quintessentially the nature of a great vintage wine that requires time. With air, aromas of firm pear, quince and crisp apple unfold, subtly accompanied by wild raspberry, hawthorn and elderflower. Yet the true leitmotif is the minerality: wet chalk, oyster shells and a seductive hint of umami – sea air and soy sauce in a single breath. Unmistakable.
Palate
Taut, focused and of striking linearity. The Brut Nature dosage – meaning no added sugar whatsoever – allows the wine to speak with uncompromising honesty: bone-dry, with a marked, almost saline texture and lively acidity that keeps the palate alert. Not a wine for the indecisive, but for those who appreciate character.
Finish
Long, mineral and characterised by a persistent chalky quality. The finish lingers – salty, precise, remarkably fresh.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come exclusively from the Premier Cru village of Vertus on the Côte des Blancs, one of Champagne’s most significant Chardonnay terroirs. The subsoil of pure chalk is the soul of this wine – and you taste it in every sip.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Chardonnay, vinified according to the principles of biodynamic viticulture, which Larmandier-Bernier has championed for decades. No dosage sugar, no compromises – the 2017 vintage speaks for itself.
Food Pairing Suggestions
An ideal companion to oysters, scallops with lemon butter or sashimi. Equally impressive with aged Comté or as a sophisticated aperitif during the cooler months.
Special Characteristics
One of the house’s most iconic single-vineyard cuvées – a Blanc de Blancs without dosage that embodies the philosophy of Pierre and Sophie Larmandier in its purest form: transparency, terroir, truth.
