Wine Description for Ried Zieregg Sauvignon Blanc Vinothek Reserve Große STK Lage 2017 from Tement

Colour & Appearance
Luminous lemon yellow with golden reflections, which indicate the impressive ripeness and extended ageing on lees.
Nose
A wine of extraordinary complexity, oscillating between two worlds: on one side tropical fruit – grapefruit, passion fruit, ripe peach and pear. On the other side a fascinating vegetable dimension with artichoke, pea and fennel. In between, a profound tertiary aromatics unfold: sencha tea, cold smoke, brioche-like yeast notes. Fresh herbs such as lemon balm, lemon thyme, parsley and coriander lend the whole an electrifyingly vibrant character. The bitter compounds from grape skins and herb seeds provide additional tension.
Palate
A monumental presence with enormous density and pressure. Minerality dominates: salted caramel, wet stones, pure stone essence. The fruit deliberately takes a back seat in favour of this impressive texture. Broad, sublime, powerful – and yet carried by remarkable elegance. As it develops in the glass, fruity and vegetable nuances open up, fresh herbs invigorate, earthy tones and bright spices such as allspice and white pepper set accents.
Finish
Enormously saline and of impressive length. The aromas return in waves – a finale that underscores the greatness of this wine.
Terroir & Origin
From the parcel „The Seven Rows“, the steepest and most barren part of Ried Zieregg. Extreme conditions – steep, windy, sparse – characterise this extraordinary microclimate in South Styria.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Sauvignon Blanc. Patient ageing over 30 months on fine lees in neutral oak, bottled unfiltered. Produced only in outstanding vintages.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Scallops with herb butter, pan-fried turbot, asparagus with Hollandaise sauce, goat’s cheese of medium maturity, vitello tonnato, artichokes with vinaigrette.
Special Features
A wine close to perfection. The Große STK Lage classification underscores the top-tier status of this parcel. A monument to South Styrian winemaking artistry.
