Colour & Appearance

Luminous lemon yellow with enticing golden highlights.

Nose

An aristocratic interplay of aromas with astonishing depth: in constant shift, exotic pomelo, passion fruit and ripe pear reveal themselves, countered by savoury notes such as artichoke, fennel and noble Sencha tea. Given a little air, fresh garden herbs such as lemon thyme and coriander seed join the glass, backed by subtle smoke and yeasty hints of fresh bread.

Palate

On the palate, it unleashes a powerful, immensely densely structured presence. This Sauvignon Blanc almost completely displaces primary fruit in favour of a monumental minerality, reminiscent of wet stones and a touch of salted caramel. For all its power, the wine retains a sublime serenity and elegance. Bright white pepper and allspice add extra drama to the earthy structure.

Finish

The finish is enormously saline, echoing for minutes and returning the complex herbal and fruit aromatics of the nose in complete harmony.

Terroir & Origin

The single vineyards of Southern Styria are among the most spectacular steep slopes in the world. The foundation for this Reserve is the extremely steep, wind-exposed plot known as “die sieben Reihen” (the seven rows) within the limestone-rich Grand Cru vineyard Zieregg. This barren terroir demands ultimate performance from the vines under extreme conditions.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Single-varietal Sauvignon Blanc from the outstanding 2017 vintage. The Tement family relies on pure patience in the cellar: spontaneously fermented, the wine matured unfiltered for a full 30 months on the fine lees in neutral oak.

Food Pairings

Such a majestic wine demands sophisticated cuisine. Excellent with pan-roasted turbot with fennel vegetables, flamed langoustine, veal chop in a herb crust or mature AOP Comté.

Particularities

This rare Vinothek Reserve originates from the steepest parcel of the Zieregg and is bottled only in exceptional years. The estate works fully biodynamically (Demeter-certified).
