Wine description for Sulzfelder Roter Silvaner trocken 2024 by Luckert – Zehnthof

Colour & appearance
Intensely luminous lemon yellow in the glass.
Nose
Sensual and finely structured. The bouquet reveals elegant notes of orange blossom, elderflower and lime blossom, underpinned by hints of nutmeg, delicate smoke and ripe pear. Here, the wine unmistakably displays its kinship with its ancestor Traminer, alongside nuances reminiscent of a charming Pinot Blanc.
Palate
On the palate, it is textured with noticeable phenolics. The mouthfeel is defined by a spicy limestone minerality, supported by hazelnut, liquorice and aniseed. Despite its density, the wine retains a clear coolness, crisp freshness and unadulterated linearity.
Terroir & origin
Grown on the steep shell limestone slopes of Sulzfeld in Franconia. The historic prince-bishop’s tithe barn dating from 1558 produces, under the direction of Wolfgang and Ulrich Luckert, authentic wines that uncompromisingly reflect the Franconian terroir.
Grape variety & vinification
Made from the rare Roter Silvaner. Following an extended maceration period, spontaneous fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in the cellar under Philipp Luckert. Maturation and malolactic fermentation occur in large wooden casks made of Spessart oak. The estate is Naturland-certified.
Food recommendations
An excellent partner to pan-fried char, veal brisket with a herb crust or delicately spiced root vegetable dishes.
Special features
Roter Silvaner is considered a rare historical mutation. As the variety had become extinct in Franconia, the Luckerts had to source vine material from Alsace over ten years ago. Today, the estate is the only one in the world to cultivate all four colour variants (Green, Yellow, Red, Blue) of this grape variety.
