Wine Description for Spätburgunder 2022 by Klaus Vorgrimmler

Colour & Appearance
Muted, elegant garnet red in the glass – a classic colour play that promises finesse and already hints at Vorgrimmler’s Burgundian style visually.
Nose
The bouquet unfolds with sour cherries, damsons and wild raspberries, accompanied by a fine cassis note. With air contact, multi-layered secondary aromas develop: liquorice, tree bark, damp leaves and noble dark chocolate. Subtle smoky hints lend the wine additional complexity – an aromatic profile that rewards patience.
Palate
On the palate, Vorgrimmler’s mastery shines through: the wine practically glides across the tongue, carried by vibrant freshness and pronounced minerality. The tannin structure recalls velvet and silk – present, but never intrusive. This elegant balance between substance and lightness makes the 2022 an ideal food companion. At 13% alcohol, it remains approachable and accessible without losing its expressiveness.
Finish
The aftertaste is medium-length and fruity-spicy, with fine minerality that evokes the Jurassic limestone subsoil. The tannins remain supple and leave a silky impression.
Terroir & Origin
The Tuniberg is a geological peculiarity – a Jurassic limestone fault block that remained when the Upper Rhine Graben collapsed. Whilst the north is characterised by powerful loess-loam soils, the vines in the steeper southern part are rooted directly in Jurassic limestone, which gives the wine its distinctive minerality. This geology is found nowhere else except in the Swiss Jura.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Pinot Noir from the 2022 vintage, vinified in the Burgundian tradition. Vorgrimmler has a gift for bringing out the elegance of the grape variety without masking it with oak or extraction.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile companion to rosy roasted veal fillet, Coq au Vin, duck breast with cherry sauce or aged Gruyère. Also an excellent choice with mushroom dishes and autumnal game specialities.
Special Features
Klaus Vorgrimmler masters elegant styling par excellence – a Spätburgunder that comes quietly yet shows presence. A wine for connoisseurs who appreciate finesse over power.
