Wine Description for Badischer Landwein Rot 2022 by Forgeurac

Colour & Appearance
Luminous purple-red with violet reflections that recall the youthfulness of this wine. Delicate lightening towards the rim reveals the classic transparency of a sensitively vinified Pinot Noir.
Nose
An enchanting interplay of aromas: sweet berries and cherries meld with floral notes of roses and violets. Beneath lies a cool, distinctive minerality that lends the wine tension. With air contact, black tea, dark fruits and dried cranberries unfold – a complexity that invites lingering.
Palate
Refined tannins meet captivating acidity – a Pinot Noir that combines elegance with substance. The stony minerality runs cool across the palate, lending the wine precision and drinkability. A wine that doesn’t satiate, but seduces you to take the next sip.
Finish
Medium-length, fresh and carried by fine fruit. The minerality lingers and leaves a clear, unvarnished impression.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes for this regional wine come from various vineyard sites in Baden – younger vines and parcels that don’t make it into the classified vineyard wines. Yet what is declared here as a „basic wine“ already displays impressive quality and character.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Pinot Noir, vinified with uncompromising handwork. Partially destemmed, partially as whole-bunch fermentation, briefly foot-trodden and fermented on the skins for around three weeks. Aged exclusively in used barriques and pièces. Without fining, filtration or additives – maximum 30 mg sulphur. A natural wine that reveals terroir and the signature of its makers.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Savoury dishes with earthy components: game terrine, sautéed mushrooms, Coq au Vin or braised beef. Also an excellent choice with hard cheese and fruit mustard.
Special Features
A regional wine that proves great wines don’t always come from premium vineyard sites. Uwe Lange and Marco Pfliehinger demonstrate with Forgeurac that honesty, craftsmanship and respect for the grape matter more than label and classification.
