The slope "In der Ritti", where this wine was grown, towers high above the Istein church. The slope is only reached by the sun late in the day, which keeps the morning temperatures cooler. A thin layer of loess rests on the bare rock below.
It is a deep garnet red with violet hues that lighten towards the edge of the wine.
The 2020 "Ritti" Pinot Noir enchants with its scent of sweet black cherries and plums, followed by fine dark chocolate, wild herbs and rustic notes of tobacco, forest floor and cedar. A floral touch accompanies the fine mineral notes, resulting in a harmonious overall experience.
The palate shows an impressive complexity, emerging with strong intensity and fine finesse at the same time. The juicy, almost sweet fruit shows all the attributes we appreciate so much in a Pinot Noir. Refreshing acidity and polished tannins create the way for an elegant wine that is excellent with food. Its finish is pleasantly long and encourages another sip with a salty note. A fantastic product!
This wine is excellent served slightly chilled from Burgundy glasses.
Food recommendations from me are pickled juniper vegetables on fresh homemade bread, traditional beef goulash with a side trio of lemon emmer, beetroot and bread dumplings tossed in butter, and the finest venison medallions on a bed of Brussels sprouts and chestnuts, served with homemade spaetzle.
