There was a largely unknown winery at the Isteiner Klotz in Markgräflerland that lacked a successor. The families from the Reinecker sparkling wine estate and the Kellers from the Schwarzen Adler recognised the uniqueness of the vineyard sites owned by this winery and took it over in 2018/2019. The uniqueness stems not only from the spectacular rock formation, along whose edges the vineyards are situated, but also from its Jurassic limestone geology, which one finds in the Jura and Burgundy, but hardly anywhere else in Germany. True to their word, the two families realised the „Weingut am Klotz“ project, converted the vineyards to organic cultivation and filled their first wine with a 2018 Spätburgunder. Already with the Gutedel wines and the Burgunders from the following vintages, one discovers highly distinctive wines that offer a new facet of these grape varieties.
