Wine Description for Sophie DOC 2024 by Manincor

Character
The Sophie DOC embodies Manincor’s philosophy of elegant cuvée craftsmanship from South Tyrol’s Überetsch region. This dry white wine blend combines the freshness of Sauvignon Blanc with the structure of Chardonnay and the aromatic nuances of Viognier into a complex, multi-layered wine. The name Sophie – a tribute to Countess Sophie von Enzenberg – stands for the connection between tradition and modern winemaking on this historic estate.
Terroir & Origin
Manincor cultivates its vineyards at Lake Kaltern in the Überetsch, one of South Tyrol’s most privileged vineyard sites. The proximity to the largest Alpine lake creates a temperate microclimate with cooling influences, whilst the soils of limestone, porphyry and moraine deposits provide mineral depth. This combination of Mediterranean warmth and Alpine freshness defines the character of the wines – ripeness coupled with vibrancy.
Grape Varieties & Vinification
The blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Viognier is a deliberate choice for complexity: Sauvignon brings aromatic precision and freshness, Chardonnay provides structure and body, whilst Viognier unites with its floral aromatics and creamy texture. Manincor works according to biodynamic principles and employs gentle vinification with controlled temperature management. The 2024 vintage benefits from ideal conditions that unite freshness and physiological ripeness.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile companion to Mediterranean and Alpine cuisine: excellent with grilled sea bass, scallops with herb butter, asparagus risotto or goat’s cheese. The structure also carries pasta with cream sauces or roasted poultry with citrus fruits. The aromatic complexity harmonises with Asian-inspired dishes featuring ginger and lemongrass.
