Wine Description for Rosso Mosso Vino Spumante Rosso Extra Brut by Alois Lageder

Character
An unconventional, vibrant sparkling wine that combines the alpine freshness of South Tyrol with carefree drinking pleasure. As a Vino Spumante Rosso Extra Brut, it deliberately breaks with the cliché of heavy or sweet red perlwines. Instead, it presents itself dry, fine-boned and full of energy. At the forefront is an invigorating, red berry juiciness, carried by a fine perlage and a delightfully refreshing structure that reflects the artisanal, nature-inspired character of the house.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes for this spumante ripen in the vineyards around Margreid in the southernmost part of South Tyrol. Here, the alpine coolness of the Dolomites meets Mediterranean influences, giving the grapes an extraordinary balance of ripeness and vibrant acidity. The biodynamic cultivation according to Demeter standards, which the Lageder estate has practised with conviction since 2004, strengthens the vitality of the soils and expresses the alpine terroir authentically and precisely.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The cuvée unites the autochthonous South Tyrolean classics Lagrein and Vernatsch with a proportion of Merlot. Whilst Vernatsch provides the pale, playful fruit, Lagrein contributes structure and a fine spiciness. The gentle vinification and ageing as Extra Brut preserve the natural freshness and pure fruit of the grape varieties. With a moderate 12.5% vol. alcohol content, this red sparkling wine displays remarkable elegance and an uncomplicated yet sophisticated drinking experience.
Food Pairing Recommendations
This versatile spumante is a fantastic food companion. It harmonises beautifully with a traditional South Tyrolean marende with cured ham and spicy mountain cheese, but equally pairs wonderfully with grilled vegetables or a classic pasta with duck ragù. Lightly chilled as an aperitif or with fine salami and antipasti, it is a real discovery.
