Wine description for Grappa di Barbaresco 700ml by Roagna

Colour & Appearance
Crystal clear and brilliant in the glass, with fine, slow-falling tears that hint at the high concentration of 45% alcohol by volume.
Nose
Intense and multi-layered: dried rose petals and violets meet ripe cherries and wild berries. Beneath lie notes of white pepper, leather and a touch of truffle – the unmistakable signature of Nebbiolo, from whose pomace this grappa is distilled.
Palate
Powerful yet by no means aggressive. The warmth of the alcohol carries aromas of dark berries, cocoa and fine herbs. The texture is supple, almost oily, with a remarkable depth that recalls the estate’s great Barbaresco wines.
Finish
Long and warming, with lingering notes of bitter almond and dried fruit. A grappa that remains present for minutes after the last sip.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from vineyards around Barbaresco, where the Roagna family has been producing wine since 1880. Today, Luca Roagna farms 15 hectares in Barbaresco and Barolo in the fifth generation – alongside his father Alfredo – including the legendary cru Pajé.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Distilled from the pomace of Nebbiolo grapes harvested for Roagna’s Barbaresco wines. The vines thrive in grass-covered, biodiverse vineyards without pesticides or herbicides – some are over 50 years old.
Food Pairings
Neat as a digestif after a Piedmontese evening, or alongside dark chocolate, mature cheese such as Parmigiano Reggiano, or a fine cigar. Also an enticing combination with nut-based desserts.
Special Notes
Roagna produces this grappa in tiny quantities – allocations are strict and demand far exceeds supply. Those who manage to secure a bottle hold a piece of Piedmontese wine history in their hands, distilled from the pomace of the very same vineyards that yield the highly sought-after Crichët Pajé.
