Wine profile
This impressive drop consists largely of Tempranillo, refined with four per cent Graciano and a refined addition of Viura and Malvasia peel essences. The vines, which are more than half a century old, deliver a very mature wine here, which has experienced an ageing period of 26 fascinating months in brand new French oak barrels.
Shades
The deep, overcast black-red of this wine is a visual delicacy, reaching to the rim of the glass and revealing a magnificent array of colours.
Bouquet
The 2013 Reserva from Remirez de Ganuza envelops the senses with an exciting, sensual aroma of sweet blackberries and blueberries, complemented by coconut, vanilla, and dark plum jam. This is carefully wrapped in oriental accents of cinnamon, clove and cardamom. For all its fruitiness and density, this wine exudes an impressive elegance and freshness.
Taste
This dynamic and fresh character remains and shows in the mouth with ripe and finely polished tannins. The acidity enlivens the palate and creates a harmonious work of art, determined by a touch of sweet fruitiness. The exotic traces of coconut and vanilla reappear in the long finish, a homage to a modern and charming Rioja style. Intensive meat dishes are carried to perfection by it!
For the best drinking experience, it is highly recommended to decant the wine in advance and enjoy it from a large glass.
Culinary recommendations
Try it with fried prawns with coriander and limes. It goes perfectly with Mediterranean lamb chops with couscous and figs or with a hearty beef stew on root vegetable puree and parsnip chips.
