Wine Description for Quinta Quietud Reserva 2020 by Quinta de la Quietud
- Colour & Appearance
- Luminous black cherry red of impressive colour depth, with violet to bluish reflections – a wine that already promises power and substance in the glass.
- Nose
- The nose is a multi-layered, powerful experience. The oak ageing initially takes centre stage with confidence: coconut, vanilla, roasted coffee and oak spice set the framework. Beneath this unfolds a dense, dark fruit profile – blackberry, morello cherry, cassis, blueberry and elderberry, concentrated and juicy in equal measure. With air come plum, sloe and tart-fresh accents. Spicy notes of sage, pepper, juniper, dark chocolate and liquorice, along with a fine pencil-like character, lend the nose complexity and inner tension.
- Palate
- Juicy, compact, structured – the attack is a statement. The tannin initially glides soft and coating across the mouth, before the acidity takes the helm and stretches the wine: slimmer, more precise, more invigorating than the nose might suggest. A slightly crumbly fruit with hints of beetroot and graphite meets chalky minerality, which interweaves with tannin and acidity to form a tightly interlocked, load-bearing structure. In the background, the wine radiates surprising brightness and warmth – a mouthful of wine that never overreaches.
- Finish
- Long, spicy and characterised by persistent graphite minerality. The acidity keeps fruit, spice and alcohol in balance until the end – a finish with backbone and elegance.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes come from old goblet-trained vines in Toro, planted in 1960 and 1988. The vineyards have been organically farmed since 2002 – a commitment to authenticity and respect for the terroir of this harsh, high-altitude Meseta landscape.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Tinta de Toro, the indigenous variant of Tempranillo, shows its full class here. Fermentation takes place in open stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature and targeted oxidative influence. The subsequent ageing lasts 24 months in French oak barrels. The high alcohol content of 15.5 % vol. is masterfully integrated – perceptible as warmth, never as heaviness.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- A wine for the grand occasion at table: lamb loins with herb crust, braised ox cheeks, wild boar ragout or a robust Manchego – this Reserva demands partners that can stand up to its intensity.
- Special Characteristics
- The harmonious integration of the high alcohol content alongside a vibrant acidity structure is the true masterpiece of this wine. Quinta de la Quietud proves that Toro can do far more than mere power – this Reserva combines depth, precision and longevity in a convincing manner. Ageing potential: easily until 2035+.
