Wine Description for Camarolos 2018 by Victoria Ordóñez

Colour & Appearance
Dense, youthful ruby red with violet reflections that underscore the vintage’s freshness. In the glass, it displays a medium viscosity that suggests concentrated fruit.
Nose
Expressive and multi-layered: dark cherries and blackberries meet Mediterranean herbs such as rosemary and thyme. The Syrah brings spicy notes of black pepper and olive tapenade, whilst Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and cassis aromas. Subtle roasted notes and a hint of garrigue round out the bouquet.
Palate
Powerful yet elegantly balanced. The 14% alcohol is perfectly integrated into a juicy fruit fullness of ripe plums and blackcurrants. The tannins are ripe and refined, with sufficient grip for structure. The Tempranillo component lends the wine a characteristically Spanish earthiness and freshness that prevents the southern warmth from becoming too dominant. Well-integrated acidity ensures a smooth drinking experience.
Finish
Medium to long, with lingering fruit and spice notes. The spicy components persist, accompanied by fine minerality and a hint of dark chocolate.
Terroir & Origin
From the revived, steep vineyards of the Sierras de Málaga. Victoria Ordóñez’s pioneering work in this historic yet long-neglected region impressively restores the forgotten potential of Andalusia for dry red wines to the map.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A thoughtfully crafted blend of Syrah, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon that combines international grape varieties with Spanish character. The ageing respects the fruit and allows the Mediterranean terroir to speak.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with grilled lamb rack with herb crust, beef steak with pepper sauce, wild boar stew or robust hard cheeses such as a mature Manchego. Also an excellent choice with aubergine moussaka or spicy tapas.
Special Features
This wine is the first red wine project from the only new winery in the Sierras de Málaga in decades – a symbol of the courage and vision of a winemaker who gave up her medical career to revive a forgotten wine-cultural heritage.
