Wine description for Pinot Rosé Sekt Brut Nature 2023 by Andres & Mugler

Colour & appearance
A delicate pink grapefruit hue, threaded with a fine, widely dispersed mousse that rises calmly and evenly in the glass.
Nose
An enchantingly subtle interplay of small red berries, vineyard peach and a nutty undercurrent of almond and hazelnut. Behind this lies a hint of vanilla foam, accompanied by herbal notes of chervil and ivy. Remarkably, there is not a trace of sweet confectionery — this rosé smells cool, clear and grown-up.
Palate
Sleek, salty, with a lively mousse. The delicate berries meet spice and a firm grip; the body remains light, the tension taut. A sparkling wine that favours precision over opulence, yet reveals astonishing depth.
Finish
Long and fresh: herbs and red fruit resonate clearly once more, accompanied by a saline minerality that cleanses the palate.
Terroir & origin
The Palatinate, specifically the villages around Deidesheim and Maikammer. Here, Michael Andres and Steffen Mugler — friends for 35 years — tend vineyard sites such as the steep, sandy Deidesheimer Mäushöhle and the Ruppertsberger Reiterpfad. Farmed organically since 2006 and biodynamically since 2010; beehives even stand among the vines in the Mäushöhle.
Grape variety & vinification
Pure Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), crafted as a rosé sparkling wine using traditional bottle fermentation — the hallmark of the estate, with lees ageing ranging from 12 to 48 months depending on the cuvée. Only about two-thirds of the pressed must is used. As a Brut Nature, it receives no dosage whatsoever: dry in style, 12.5% abv.
Food recommendations
An ideal guest at the table: with salmon tartare, pan-fried hake, gently braised Pfälzer Saumagen (stuffed pig’s stomach), beetroot risotto or a goat’s cheese tartlet with fresh herbs.
Special characteristics
What sets it apart is the rare combination of finesse and substance: a rosé sparkling wine devoid of any jammy sweetness, presenting its red fruit in a cool, taut manner. In 2021, Eichelmann named Andres & Mugler’s collection the best sparkling wine collection in Germany — this Brut Nature shows why. It does not end with a flourish, but with clarity: one simply wishes to taste it again.
