Wine Description for Vin de Comptoir Blanc L21.82 Coteaux Champenois by Charles Dufour

Character
Charles Dufour belongs to those artisanal Champagne producers who are rediscovering the still wine potential of Champagne. His „Vin de Comptoir Blanc“ – literally „bar counter wine“ – is a deliberately unpretentious, lively interpretation of the region’s still wines. The blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc embodies that approachable directness which characterises Dufour’s philosophy: honest, unadorned, with a moderate alcohol content of 11.5% vol. that makes the wine refreshing and accessible.
Terroir & Origin
The appellation Coteaux Champenois designates the still wines of Champagne – an often underrated terroir based on chalk soils and cool climate. Dufour manages his parcels in Landreville in the south of the Côte des Bar, where the more continental climate enables riper grapes without losing the characteristic freshness and minerality. The chalk soils impart that saline tension which makes Champagne wines so distinctive.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The combination of Chardonnay (structure and elegance), Pinot Noir (body and fruit) and Pinot Blanc (fullness and texture) creates a multifaceted white wine with natural balance. Dufour works with minimal intervention, spontaneous fermentation and without fining – a philosophy that keeps the wine lively and authentic. The low alcohol content and dry orientation underscore the bistro character that the name promises.
Food Pairing Suggestions
An ideal companion to French bistro cuisine: oysters, scallops, goat’s cheese or trout with almond butter. The crisp acidity harmonises beautifully with poultry terrine, Quiche Lorraine or a simple baguette with salted butter. A wine that invites uncomplicated enjoyment – very much in the spirit of the French „Vin de Soif“.
