Wine Description for Pannobile 2016 by Heinrich

Colour & Appearance
Deep purple with ruby-red rim and opaque centre – a wine that announces its concentration visually. Clear and lustrous in the glass.
Nose
Requires time and air to open up – then reveals a precise red berry fruit, reminiscent of Black Forest gateau: dark cherries, cocoa, a hint of cream. No loud opulence, but concentrated elegance. With increasing aeration, a remarkable aromatic complexity unfolds: floral notes meet dark berry fruit, the blend of 55% Zweigelt and 45% Blaufränkisch displays its full complexity here.
Palate
The crisp, vibrant fruit presents itself in layers – a fine-grained tannin structure carries the framework without dominating. The silky texture is enlivened by a vital acidity and a subtle, stimulating bitterness. With only 12.5% alcohol, the wine never feels heavy, remaining straightforward and honest. Remarkable length.
Finish
Long, tense, with lingering fruit and fine tannins. The balance between fruit, acidity and tannin is maintained to the very end.
Terroir & Origin
From the Heinrich winery at Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland – a region renowned for powerful yet elegant red wines. The Pannonian climate with warm days and cool nights shapes the character of this wine.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A thoughtfully crafted blend of 55% Zweigelt and 45% Blaufränkisch – the Zweigelt dominance brings fruit and juiciness, the Blaufränkisch component structure and spice. The moderate alcohol content testifies to controlled ripeness.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Pairs excellently with braised pork belly, roasted chicken stuffed with chestnuts or even a Mediterranean grilled vegetable quiche with Gorgonzola. The structure accommodates bold flavours, the elegance harmonises with refined preparations.
Special Features
Part of the renowned Pannobile Collection – an association of top Burgenland winemakers. The 2016 is already approachable, but will benefit from further ageing. Optimal drinking window from 2022 onwards.
