Colour & Appearance

A deep, muted garnet red that deepens to black at its core – dark and impenetrable like a summer evening at Lake Neusiedl.

Nose

The nose is a dark, multi-layered panorama: blackberry, mulberry and blackcurrant form the ripe fruit foundation, underpinned by liquorice, tar and a hint of coffee. Mediterranean herbs join the composition – wild mint, rosemary, thyme – along with black pepper and the delicate elegance of dried rose petals. A wine that tells its story before it is drunk.

Palate

On the palate, a juicy, powerful firework unfolds, convincing with fine fruit sweetness, vibrant acidity and spicy, well-integrated tannins. A pronounced minerality runs cool and precise across the tongue, lending the wine an invigorating tension. Remarkable: all this energy at merely 12.5% alcohol – a textbook example of power without weight.

Finish

Long, spicy and carried by dark herbs – the finish resonates like distant thunder.

Terroir & Origin

Meinklang manages its vineyard sites in Burgenland at Lake Neusiedl according to biodynamic principles – a terroir that, with its Pannonian climate and mineral-rich soils, imparts an unusual depth and individuality to the Cabernet Franc.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Pure Cabernet Franc, spontaneously fermented and crafted with an extraordinary 45-day whole-bunch maceration. This radical decision bestows the wine its silky tannins, aromatic complexity and that almost meditative density that sets it apart from conventional interpretations of the variety.

Food Pairing Suggestions

Ideal with hare with coffee crust and berry sauce on celeriac purée – an almost classical echo of the wine’s aromas in the glass. Equally convincing with pork belly in bourbon marinade with roasted potatoes and grilled corn. For vegetarian preferences: a chestnut soup with rosemary satay and black walnuts mirrors the wine’s earthy spice in an elegant manner.
