Niepoort

A second love, found in the granite mountains south of Viseu. Niepoort in the Dão - cool nights, old vines and wines of remarkable freshness. In 2012, Dirk Niepoort acquired Quinta da Lomba and began to explore the potential of this underestimated region. The Conciso line - concise, to the point - epitomises his philosophy: clarity instead of power, elegance instead of extraction.
More about Niepoort
Granite instead of slate
The Dão is nestled between mountains, protected from Atlantic influences and characterised by granite soils. Unlike in the hot Douro The grapes ripen more slowly here, retain more acidity and develop finer flavours. In 2012, Dirk Niepoort acquired the Quinta da Lomba with its old vines in the hills south of Viseu. Tinta Pinheira, Touriga Nacional and Encruzado - the autochthonous varieties find ideal conditions here for wines with moderate alcohol and precise structure.

Conciso: To the point
The name says it all: „conciso“ means concise, brief, to the point. The Conciso Branco from Encruzado is characterised by its mineral freshness, the Conciso Tinto with silky tannins and red-fruity elegance. No oak monsters, no over-extraction - wines that let their terroir speak for itself.

Cool elegance
As in the Douro, Niepoort also favours biodynamic cultivation and minimal intervention in the Dão. Spontaneous fermentation, used barriques, time instead of technology. The Serra da Estrela sends fresh winds, the nights are cool, the ripening period long. The result is wines that compete with the best Burgundy wines for finesse - at a fraction of the price. With the next generation, embodied by son Daniel, continuity is assured.
