Nose

Captivating floral and complex. Linden blossom, apple blossom and almond blossom dominate with an elegance that evokes more northerly latitudes. Beneath this unfolds a Mediterranean spice layer of thyme and oregano, underpinned by white peach, pear and mandarin – the latter with its characteristic, slightly bitter peel note. The chopped almonds lend additional texture. A cool, herbal-spicy freshness holds the aromatic ensemble together.

Palate

Here Niepoort demonstrates mastery: precise, light-footed, with a chalky linearity reminiscent of Burgundian style. Surprising notes of grilled corn and pineapple mingle with an almost saline popcorn nuance. The fruit deliberately takes a step back – this wine is a statement for texture and minerality. The saline to chalky minerality literally clings to the teeth, a tactile experience that challenges and fascinates the palate. The gripping acidity stimulates without ever becoming aggressive.
