Wine description for naked red non-vintage by Heinrich

Character
The „naked red“ embodies Gernot Heinrich’s philosophy of reduction and honesty. With a moderate 12% alcohol content, this cuvée from three Burgenland red wine varieties presents itself as an uncomplicated, easy-drinking everyday wine that deliberately forgoes a vintage designation. The blend of Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt and St. Laurent yields a juicy, vibrant red wine with Burgundian lightness – a counterpoint to concentrated, high-alcohol wines.
Terroir & Origin
The Burgenland region at Lake Neusiedl provides ideal conditions for this cuvée: the Pannonian climate with hot summers and the tempering influence of the shallow steppe lake enables fully ripe grapes whilst maintaining freshness. Heinrich’s wines come from biodynamically managed vineyard sites in Gols, where loamy soils with chalk content provide structure and mineral tension. The region has established itself as a stronghold for authentic, terroir-driven Austrian red wines.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Blaufränkisch provides the spicy backbone and structure, Zweigelt contributes soft fruit and drinkability, whilst St. Laurent adds depth and finesse with its Burgundian elegance. The „naked“ approach means minimal intervention: spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, short skin contact times for moderate extraction and ageing without new oak barrels. The result is an unadorned, authentic wine that prioritises fruit and freshness over concentration – a deliberately accessible style that combines Austrian red wine tradition with contemporary drinking culture.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The juicy lightness makes this wine an ideal everyday food companion. Perfect with grilled vegetables, pizza, pasta with tomato sauce or charcuterie. Also an excellent choice with roasted chicken, pork or mild cheeses. Lightly chilled to 14-16°C, it reveals its full drinking pleasure.
