Wine Description for Morei Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2020 1500ml Magnum by Foradori
- Colour & Appearance
- Deep purple-red with an almost black core and luminous violet reflections – a wine that does full justice to its name „Morei“ (dark). The intense colour depth in the magnum promises concentration and longevity.
- Nose
- Opulent and dark-fruited, the Morei presents itself with blueberries, mulberries and blackcurrants. Hovering above is the floral top note typical of Teroldego – violets and mallows. A hint of dark chocolate lends the nose additional depth and complexity.
- Palate
- Juicy and generous on the attack, the 2020 displays remarkable accessibility despite its structure. The dark fruit is framed by gripping, fine-grained tannins that cling precisely to the palate. The ripe acidity lends the wine dynamism and drinking flow without diminishing its substance.
- Finish
- Long and fruity with lingering dark chocolate notes that elegantly meld with the ripe fruit. The tannins remain present through to the end and promise good development potential.
- Terroir & Origin
- The 2.5-hectare Morei vineyard site lies in the Campo Rotaliano, a geographical enclave in the Adige Valley. The vines are rooted in the gravelly and sandy alluvial soils of the Noce river, which over centuries has deposited limestone, granite and porphyry debris. This unique terroir gives the Morei its characteristic power and minerality.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Teroldego Rotaliano, fermented and aged in Spanish amphorae (Tinajas from Villarrobledo). Eight months on the skins lend the wine its impressive structure and colour depth. Elisabetta Foradori practises biodynamic viticulture and relies on natural clarification.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Braised rabbit with tarragon and mushrooms, tuna steak with red wine butter, fermented red cabbage with walnuts or robust hard cheeses. The wine also pairs well with hearty game dishes and pasta with ragù.
- Special Features
- Limited production of only 12,000 bottles. The magnum bottle favours slower, more harmonious maturation. The more powerful of Foradori’s two vineyard-site Teroldegos benefits from a few years of cellar ageing, but is already accessible now.
