Wine Description for Morei Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2022 by Foradori
- Colour & Appearance
- Intense purple-red with an almost black core and luminous violet reflections – a wine that does full justice to its dialectal name „Morei“ (dark).
- Nose
- Generous and open-hearted, this powerful Teroldego presents itself beautifully even in its youth. A characteristic floral top note of mallow and violet leads to dark berry notes: blueberries and cherries dominate, underpinned by a hint of dark chocolate. The amphora vinification lends the bouquet a fascinating depth without intrusive oak notes.
- Palate
- The attack is friendly and expansive, with opulent dark fruit. What distinguishes this Morei is its gripping tannin structure – tightly woven and precisely defined, it gives the wine structure and form. The taut acidity balances the fruit abundance perfectly and leads into a cool, fruit-driven finish. At a moderate 12.5% alcohol, the wine remains elegant and inviting to drink.
- Terroir & Origin
- The 2.5-hectare vineyard site Vigneto Morei lies in Campo Rotaliano, a protected valley basin in Trentino. The gravelly and sandy alluvial soils of the Noce river – a blend of limestone, granite and porphyry – shape the powerful character of this site wine and make it the more expressive of Foradori’s two Teroldego interpretations.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Teroldego Rotaliano, spontaneously fermented in Spanish amphorae (Tinajas) from Villarrobledo. The eight-month maceration period on the skins gives the wine its impressive structure and depth, whilst natural clarification in the clay vessels ensures purity and precision. Annual production: approximately 12,000 bottles.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- This structured Teroldego calls for hearty companions: Ossobuco alla Milanese, braised lamb shoulder, wild game ragout or mature mountain cheese from Trentino. Also an excellent choice with grilled Portobello mushrooms or polenta with mushrooms.
- Special Features
- Elisabetta Foradori is among the pioneers of biodynamic viticulture in Italy. The amphora vinification underscores her philosophy of minimal intervention and maximum terroir expression – a Teroldego of extraordinary authenticity and drinking pleasure.
