Wine Description for Monte Tabor Valpolicella DOC 2022 by Fidora

Character
The Monte Tabor Valpolicella by Fidora embodies the accessible, fresh side of Veneto. With a moderate 12.5% alcohol, this wine presents itself as a light-footed everyday companion, showcasing the classic Valpolicella trio of Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella in their most uncomplicated form. This isn’t about concentration or opulence, but rather drinkability and vivacity – an honest interpretation of the terroir without oenological gimmicks.
Terroir & Origin
The Valpolicella DOC extends north of Verona between Lake Garda and the Lessini Mountains. The temperate climate with cool winds from the lake and warm updrafts from the Po Valley creates ideal conditions for fresh, aromatic red wines. The calcareous soils lend the wines their characteristic mineral tension. The 2022 vintage was marked by heat and drought, requiring early harvests – all the more important that Fidora has evidently maintained the balance.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Corvina forms the backbone with its cherry fruit and natural acidity, whilst Corvinone contributes structure and depth. Rondinella rounds off the trio with floral notes. This traditional assemblage is typically matured in stainless steel or large wooden casks to preserve the fruitiness. For a wine of this price point and style, one may assume that Fidora employs straightforward vinification – short maceration times, gentle extraction, early bottling for maximum freshness.
Food Pairing Recommendations
This Valpolicella is tailor-made for everyday Italian cuisine: Pasta al Pomodoro, Pizza Margherita, grilled vegetables or antipasti with salami and pecorino. The moderate structure harmonises beautifully with Risotto ai Funghi or Saltimbocca alla Romana. Lightly chilled to 14-16°C, it reveals its full potential as an uncomplicated terrace wine that also brings pleasure on its own.
