Tasting note
Character
A puristic, profoundly honest Palatinate Riesling with a linear drive and an uncompromising attitude. Unadorned and focused, this wine is defined by aromas of wet stone and freshly grated lemon zest. With its slender 12.0% ABV, it feels vibrantly alive without losing itself in superficial fruit sweetness – a rock of stability in the world of artisanal winemaking.
Terroir & Origin
The Deidesheimer Mäushöhle is one of the last remaining terraced vineyards in the Mittelhaardt, situated on the region’s steepest slopes. Benefiting from a prime south-eastern exposure, the vines take root in highly mineral-rich buntsandstein (red sandstone). Here, Michael Andres cultivates a mere 0.45 hectares in one of the highest vineyard sites of the area – a historic terroir that is extremely labour-intensive and could not survive without rigorous, meticulous handiwork.
Grape Variety & Vinification
This single-varietal Riesling is born from biodynamic viticulture, which Andres has implemented pragmatically and naturally on his seven-hectare estate since 2006. The grapes are hand-harvested and spontaneously fermented using wild yeasts. Abstaining from unnecessary intervention allows the grape variety its purest expression, capturing the raw energy of the steep sandstone terraces in an unvarnished manner.
Food Pairings
Its mineral freshness and dry, delicate body make this Riesling an ideal companion for sophisticated seafood dishes. It pairs wonderfully with pan-seared pike-perch on braised lentils, complements oysters on ice, and enhances fresh goat’s cheese with herbs or a classic cod ceviche thanks to its refined acidity.
