Wine Description for Malvasia delle Lipari DOC Passito 2023 375ml by Tenuta di Castellaro

Colour & Appearance
Intense amber with luminous highlights.
Nose
A Beguiling elixir: Dense notes of dried figs, dates, sweet honey, warm caramel and a hint of white coffee meet an invigorating citrus freshness and a delicate, maritime salinity.
Palate
On the palate, this noble sweet Passito presents a fascinating interplay: Opulent sweetness is interwoven with a vibrant, refreshing acidity structure and a striking salty note. The mouthfeel is concentrated without feeling heavy – volcanic energy in liquid form.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes ripen on the Piana di Castellaro on the Aeolian island of Lipari at an altitude of 350 metres. The terroir combines three volcanic rocks: pumice bestows elegance, obsidian provides a polished structure, and kaolin imparts a creamy, rich expression. The interplay of volcanic heat and fresh sea breezes shapes this wine.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A blend of Malvasia delle Lipari and the rare, almost extinct variety Corinto Nero (Korinthiaki). Manual labour defines the cultivation in the organically certified vineyards: The vines are grown in the ancient Albarello system (head-trained bush vines) on steep terraces. In the bioclimatic cellar, processing is carried out gently using gravity.
Food Pairings
A dream partner for spicy dishes, mature blue cheese, as well as refined caramel desserts or dark chocolate.
Particularities
This Passito is a liquid heritage conservation project of heroic viticulture. Born on volcanic soil and hand-harvested using the ancient training system, it reveals a rare, meditative balance of dense sweetness and salty freshness.
