Wine Description for Lutzmannsburg Alte Reben 2021 by Moric

Colour & Appearance
Deep black-red with minimal violet reflections at the rim – a visual promise of concentration and depth.
Nose
An aromatic monument that reveals itself layer by layer: cassis and dark berries form the foundation, layered above are roasted notes, cocoa and a fascinating hint of peat. Noble leather, fine tobacco and Kampot pepper round out the bouquet. Remarkable is the inner composure of this wine – for all its expressive power, it never sounds loud or obtrusive.
Palate
A Blaufränkisch of monumental stature, yet remaining elegant. The dense, dark berry fruit merges with an extraordinary minerality that lends the wine tension and precision. The refined tannins are of silky texture, the vibrant acidity provides freshness and length. Despite its concentration, the wine shows itself remarkably juicy – a sign of old vines and precise cellar work. This is winemaking craft at the highest level.
Finish
Long, mineral and persistent, with a fine peppery note that lingers for minutes.
Terroir & Origin
From old vines in Lutzmannsburg on Lake Neusiedl, where Roland Velich under the Moric label counts among Austria’s most uncompromising Blaufränkisch producers. The soils lend this wine its characteristic minerality and depth.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Blaufränkisch from old vines, which naturally deliver lower yields and higher concentration. The moderate alcohol content of 13.5% vol. underscores the focus on elegance rather than opulence.
Food Pairing Recommendations
This wine demands sophisticated cuisine: Kobe beef with Madagascar pepper, smoked pork belly with plum dumplings or vegetarian black salsify with truffle and Brussels sprouts.
Special Features
An excellent wine for cellaring – already impressive now, it will become even more complex and harmonious in 5-10 years. Patience will be richly rewarded.
