Terroir & Origin

Priorat, nestled in the Catalan coastal mountains, is renowned for its steep slate terraces – the famous Llicorella. Terroir al Limit manages old parcels in the higher, cooler sites, where vines root in barren soils and are spared the intense heat by their elevation. These conditions allow the grapes to retain their natural acidity and freshness despite the Mediterranean sun – a hallmark of the estate.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Carignan, often underestimated, is experiencing a renaissance in Priorat. The old bush vines, some over 80 years old, yield concentrated yet never heavy wines. Terroir al Limit vinifies with minimal intervention: natural yeasts, extended maceration for gentle extraction, ageing in neutral vessels. The result is a wine that displays both the cool minerality of slate and the spicy, herbal side of the grape variety – red berries, Mediterranean herbs, stony texture.

Food Pairing Suggestions

This Carignan calls for Catalan cuisine: braised rabbit with olives, lamb shoulder with rosemary or grilled aubergines with romesco sauce. The mineral structure harmonises beautifully with porcini mushrooms and roasted root vegetables. The wine also reveals its versatile nature alongside chorizo or mature hard cheeses such as Manchego.
