Wine Description for La Mula de la Quietud 2018 1500ml Magnum from Quinta de la Quietud

Character
Quinta de la Quietud embodies with this wine the powerful soul of Toro in its most concentrated form. The magnum bottle underscores the ambition of this Tempranillo, which at 15.5% alcohol reflects the intense sunshine and extreme continental climate of the region. Here Toro reveals itself not tamed, but in its full muscular authenticity – a wine that combines power with structure.
Terroir & Origin
Toro lies in western Castile at approximately 700 metres elevation, where old Tempranillo vines are rooted in barren, stony soils. The extreme continental climate with hot summers and cold winters, combined with minimal rainfall, produces grapes of extraordinary concentration. The region, long standing in the shadow of Rioja, has established itself as a source for uncompromising, terroir-driven red wines. Quinta de la Quietud – the name alludes to stillness and tranquillity – works with the raw character of this landscape, rather than against it.
Grape Variety & Vinification
In Toro, Tempranillo is known as Tinta de Toro – a local variant with thicker skins and more intense fruit concentration. The vines must prove their resilience here, which manifests itself in wines of impressive density. The 2018 vintage benefited from ideal conditions. The magnum bottling is no mere gimmick, but rather enables slower, more harmonious development of the wine over the years.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine of this stature demands bold flavours: roasted lamb shoulder, braised beef cheeks or game with dark sauces are ideal companions. The structure of Toro Tempranillo also shows its best side with aged Manchego or intense hard cheeses. Castilian cuisine with its stews and roasts is the natural home for this wine.
