Wine Description for La Mula de la Quietud 2018 1500ml Magnum from Quinta de la Quietud

Character
Quinta de la Quietud interprets the powerful Tinta de Toro – the local variant of Tempranillo – with impressive concentration in magnum format. The name „La Mula“ refers to the working animals that once tended the vineyards of Toro, and the wine itself possesses this unruly, honest power. With 15.5% alcohol, this reveals the full intensity of this extreme wine region, yet when carefully vinified, it is balanced through structure and depth. The magnum bottle also promises slower, more harmonious ageing.
Terroir & Origin
Toro lies on the Duero, upstream from the more celebrated Ribera del Duero, on a high plateau in an extreme continental location. The summers here are mercilessly hot, the winters bitterly cold – conditions that only robust vines can survive. The barren soils and old vines force the roots deep into the earth and produce tiny yields with enormous concentration. The result is wines of almost archaic power that carry the rugged character of Castile within them.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The Tinta de Toro is a distinctive clone variant of Tempranillo that has adapted over centuries to the extreme conditions. It develops thicker skins, smaller berries and more intense aromas than its relatives in cooler regions. Quinta de la Quietud works with respectful minimalism to preserve the essence of the terroir. The 2018 vintage benefited from a balanced growing cycle that united power with freshness.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine of this stature demands grilled oxtail, roasted lamb shoulder or robust wild game stew. Classic Castilian cuisine with suckling pig or cochinillo is equally fitting, as is aged Manchego cheese. The wine also reveals its rustic elegance alongside braised beef with porcini mushrooms or hearty bean stews.
