Wine Description for La Contessa DOC 2024 by Manincor
- Colour & Appearance
- Pale straw yellow with vibrant greenish reflections – a wine that announces its freshness already in the glass.
- Nose
- Multi-layered and of remarkable depth. The fruit spectrum moves between yellow and green: green mango, chilled pineapple, white peach and nashi pear meet lively lemon and bergamot zest. A fine herbal layer of lemon balm, lemon thyme and chervil lends the bouquet Mediterranean elegance. Subtle notes of fresh almonds and yeast cake round out the picture with pleasant depth.
- Palate
- Gripping, vibrant and precise. On the palate, the fruit profile emerges fresher and greener: lime, bergamot and nashi pear dominate. A striking, finely balanced acidity gives the wine backbone and energy; light phenolics provide pleasant structure. Stony, clear and invigorating – a wine that delights right now, yet still holds potential.
- Finish
- Long, fresh and characterised by mineral precision. The acidity fades cleanly and purposefully, leaving a crisp, lively mouthfeel with a hint of citrus peel and bergamot.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes come from two characterful vineyard sites: the Ansitz Lieben Aich near Terlan (300 m, west-facing, sandy-porphyritic soils) and the cool, east-facing Campan vineyard site at Lake Caldaro (500 m, loamy-calcareous soils with glacial deposits). This combination of warmth, altitude and soil diversity is the foundation of this wine’s complexity.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A classic Terlan cuvée: 53 % Pinot Blanc, 29 % Chardonnay, 18 % Sauvignon Blanc. After six hours of skin contact maceration, fermentation takes place variety by variety in wooden barrels; followed by nine months of ageing on fine lees in large wood. The result: 6 g/l acidity, lean 1.2 g/l residual sugar, 13.0 % alcohol – values that promise both freshness and ageing potential.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Ideal with sea bass with lemon butter, risotto with seafood or a goat’s cheese salad with herbs. Also an excellent choice with asparagus with hollandaise sauce or light pasta dishes with herbs and Parmesan.
- Special Features
- The 2024 vintage presented the biodynamically managed Manincor winery with considerable challenges: an extremely wet spring and a hot summer were rescued by outstanding autumn weather. The result is a wine with moderate alcohol, vibrant acidity and impressive freshness – a testament to consistent biodynamic work in the vineyard.
