Wine Description for La Cuvee Brut 2019 by Gramona

Colour & Appearance
Luminous greenish-yellow with fine, persistently effervescent bubbles – a mousse that immediately signals elegance.
Nose
The nose is fresh and inviting: delicate notes of stone fruit and white flowers dominate, underpinned by discreet hints of almond and biscuit – a whisper of lees ageing that remains refined in the background, without overwhelming the fruit.
Palate
On the palate, La Cuvee reveals itself as bright, lively and precise. The fine bubbles create a creamy mouthfeel, whilst crisp apple and citrus notes provide freshness. Despite 36 months of lees ageing, the wine remains remarkably lean and unencumbered – not a trace of opulence, instead an elegant, mineral touch that impressively reflects the character of the Penedès soils.
Finish
The finish is long, slightly bitter and stimulating – typical of a Xarel.lo-driven sparkling wine. The low dosage of just 5 g/l keeps the finish soft and balanced, without any harshness.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from biodynamically farmed vineyards in Penedès and are Demeter-certified. Gramona belongs to the demanding association Corpinnat, which separated from the DO Cava in 2019 and sets new standards for Catalan sparkling wine with strict quality regulations.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The classic blend of Xarel.lo, Macabeu and Parellada combines the best of the Penedès‘ native white wine varieties. 15 per cent of the base wine aged for one year in 300-litre barrels, the rest in stainless steel – a clever decision that creates complexity without weight. The subsequent lees ageing of around 36 months imparts depth without sacrificing freshness.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Excellent with prawns and other seafood. The lively acidity and minerality make La Cuvee also a surprisingly successful companion to Thai curry – whether with vegetables or poultry.
