Wine Description for Pinot Noir Ruppertsthal 2022 by Fritsch

Colour & Appearance
Sparkling cherry red with pomegranate reflexes that elegantly lighten towards the rim – a Pinot Noir that already reveals its Burgundian DNA visually.
Nose
Captivingly multi-layered: sour cherries and raspberries are underscored by earthy notes such as forest floor, mushrooms and damp earth. With air contact, a second aromatic layer unfolds: mineral nuances, freshly ground white pepper, a hint of ivy, dried rose petals and subtle cassis undertones. A nose that combines complexity with finesse.
Palate
Here the true elegance of this Pinot reveals itself: delicate and silky, it flows across the palate, carried by tender acidity and soft, perfectly integrated tannins. The verve and playfulness recall the great models from Burgundy, yet remain authentically Austrian. A wine of impressive lightness at 12.5% alcohol – discreet, never obtrusive, an ideal food companion.
Finish
Medium-length and refreshing, with lingering red fruit aromas and a fine mineral note that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
From the Wagram in Lower Austria, a region increasingly renowned for its fine Burgundy varieties. The 28-year-old vines from the Ruppertsthal vineyard site bring the necessary depth and complexity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Hand-harvested Pinot Noir, spontaneously fermented in small, used 500-litre wooden barrels – an ageing process that gives the wine structure without overwhelming it with oak aromas. Pure fruit and terroir take centre stage.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A versatile companion to duck, game birds, veal schnitzel or mushroom risotto. Also an excellent choice with salmon, tuna tataki or a mature Comté.
Special Features
An Austrian Pinot Noir that proves the Wagram has more to offer than Grüner Veltliner. Fritsch vinifies with Burgundian understanding and Austrian precision – a wine for purists and connoisseurs alike.
