Wine information
Las Guillermas comes from two neighbouring plots, one of which is planted with Tempranillo and the other with white Viura. Together, the two sites cover an area of 0.62 hectares. The vines are each just under 70 years old and are located in Rioja Alavesa at an altitude of 400 metres. Tempranillo and Viura are harvested and fermented together. The wine then matures for 9 months in used wooden barrels.
Color
Cherry Red
Nose
The wine is super fresh, but does not have the austere coolness of the other two parcel wines from the Escondite del Ardacho range. Red fruit and even apple make an appearance in the bouquet. The white Viura shows itself quite obviously here.
Palate
Las Guillermas 2019 is a red wine with the soul of a white wine. It has an enormously refreshing acidity, typical of Viura from Rioja. The white grape, which makes up 40 per cent of the blend, definitely leaves its mark on the wine. The wine has bite, fine tannins, a slender body and a firm pull towards the back. The focus is clearly on freshness and crispness rather than fullness and concentration. A blind tasting would probably place this wine in Galicia. A great parcel wine that stimulates drinking. Not your usual Rioja.
