Wine Description for El Sequé 2021 by El Sequé

Colour & Appearance
Deep, luminous ruby red with violet reflections that underscore the youth of this Mediterranean cuvée. In the glass, the wine presents itself with medium viscosity and good colour intensity.
Nose
The bouquet displays the typical opulence of the Levantine coast: ripe dark cherries and blackberries dominate, accompanied by spicy notes of sage and Mediterranean herbs. Subtle hints of cedarwood and a discreet smoky component lend the wine complexity without overshadowing the fruit expression.
Palate
Here the true class of this Mourvèdre-Syrah cuvée reveals itself: juicy and meaty in texture, with impressive fullness on the mid-palate. The balance between ripe fruit concentration and a taut, vibrant acidity framework is remarkable – a wine that despite its 14.5% alcohol never feels heavy. The delicate, fine-grained tannins integrate perfectly and promise excellent ageing potential. Sour cherry sets the tone, played around by spicy and mineral nuances.
Finish
Long and precise. Sour cherry dominates the aftertaste, accompanied by cedarwood, sage and lightly smoky notes. The freshness persists to the very end – a wine that invites you to take the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
From the DO Alicante on Spain’s Mediterranean coast, where chalky soils and the Mediterranean climate create ideal conditions for Mourvèdre and Syrah. The region benefits from sea breezes that provide cooling nights and preserve the acidity structure.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A thoughtfully crafted blend of Mourvèdre and Syrah that unites the best of both varieties: the structure and spice of Mourvèdre with the juicy fruit and elegance of Syrah. The ageing was handled carefully to preserve fruit intensity.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Excellent with grilled lamb racks, beef steak with herb butter, braised game ragout or spiced stews. Also an outstanding choice with aged Manchego or hard cheeses.
Special Features
A wine with considerable ageing potential of 5-8 years that is already accessible now, but will benefit from further bottle maturation. Excellent value for money for a wine of this quality from Alicante.
