Color
Dark cherry red with violet accents and light rim
Nose
The 2020 El Seque is based on Monastrell and fortunately lives from a slight reduction. This gives it a lot of lightness and finesse instead of broad boredom. It does not lose its dark spiciness and Mediterranean character. Morello cherry, plum and plenty of raspberry characterise it on the nose. In second line, pepper, cardamom and juniper pour out of the glass. Oregano and rosemary then have a more restrained effect.
This mixture of fruit, balsamic spice and ethereal accents is enormously attractive to me.
Palate
On the palate, it bundles the fruit in a very juicy and taut robe. It seems fleshy without being bulky. Despite the warm climate, it shows cool accents and finesse. The fruit is shown to its best advantage, but is by no means flaunted. White pepper, aniseed, liquorice, but even more clearly artichoke and fennel characterise its aftertaste in an enormously appealing way and remain true to the Mediterranean context.
