Wine Description for Riesling Furstentum Grand Cru 2022 from Domaine Albert Mann

Colour & Appearance
Deep straw yellow with bright reflections.
Nose
Complex and multi-layered with notes of orange blossom and linden blossom, green mandarin, quince, medlar and preserved ginger. Nuances of sourdough crust, cereal and green tea lend a thrilling, intricate structure to the aromatics.
Palate
Disciplined and focused with powdery, fine phenolics that provide an invigorating, subtly tart grip. The wine owes its cool nature to a broadly arched, ripe acidity, which is supported by a slightly earthy minerality. The fruit seamlessly merges with the savoury notes to create a remarkable bite.
Finish
Long-lasting and refreshing, characterised by lingering notes of citrus fruits, fine spice and an invigorating mineral freshness.
Terroir & Origin
The Grand Cru site Furstentum in Kientzheim is considered the coolest vineyard address of the estate; its spring warming noticeably lags behind that of the nearby Schlossberg. The roughly 30-year-old vines grow on calcareous soils. Domaine Albert Mann has been farmed according to Demeter-certified biodynamic principles since 1997.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Riesling, vinified dry. The work of brothers-in-law Maurice and Jacky Barthelmé follows the philosophy of minimal intervention and meticulous observation in the vineyard.
Food Pairings
An outstanding partner for Vietnamese soup with tomatoes and pineapple, Cantonese squid with spring onion and ginger or spiced chicken in tamarind with tomatoes and jackfruit.
Special Features
The interplay between the natural, cool late-ripening of the barren limestone terroir and the ripe substance of the 2022 vintage lends this wine its fascinating, taut tension.
