Wine Description for Riesling Furstentum Grand Cru 2022 from Domaine Albert Mann

Colour & Appearance
Powerful straw yellow with luminous reflections – a wine with visual presence and maturity.
Nose
Cosmopolitan and multi-layered: orange blossom and linden blossom meet green mandarin, quince and medlar. These are joined by pickled ginger, a note of sourdough bread crust and a hint of green tea. An aromatic profile that oscillates between elegance and complexity.
Palate
Here the true greatness of this Grand Cru reveals itself: extremely disciplined on the attack, with powdery fine phenolics that create a stimulating herbal grip. The ripe, expansive acidity structures the wine with cool precision, whilst slightly earthy minerality accelerates the palate. The fruit merges inseparably with the herbal notes – this is no ingratiating charmer, but a Riesling with backbone and tension.
Finish
Long, stimulating, with a bite that lingers. The minerality carries far, the acidity remains present – a finale that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The Furstentum in Kientzheim is the coldest of Alsace’s Grand Cru vineyard sites – a ten-day advantage over the neighbouring Schlossberg runs through the entire year. The calcareous soils and vines around 30 years old lend this Riesling its characteristic minerality and tension.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Riesling, farmed organically and biodynamically by the traditional Domaine Albert Mann. Each parcel is individually tended – a philosophy that is reflected in the precision of this wine.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The acidity and minerality predestine this Riesling for Asian cuisine: Vietnamese soup with tomato and pineapple, Cantonese squid with spring onion and ginger or chicken in tamarind with tomato and jackfruit. The herbal structure harmonises perfectly with complex, spicy flavours.
Special Characteristics
At 14% alcohol, no lightweight, but the acidity keeps everything in balance. A Grand Cru that deserves patience – it will gain further depth in the coming years.
