Wine Description for Riesling Furstentum Grand Cru 2021 from Domaine Albert Mann

Colour & Appearance
Luminous golden yellow with bright reflections – a wine that already reveals its crystalline clarity and precision in the glass.
Nose
Purist and glass-clear, this Furstentum presents itself with impressive purity of tone. White peach, vineyard peach and nashi pear meet grapefruit, whilst the chalk-defined minerality with associations of wet chalk and cold smoke communicates the terroir unmistakably. Over time, a remarkable palette of ethereal notes unfolds: lemon balm, coriander, mint, sage and thyme form an aromatic phalanx of herbal freshness, complemented by subtle vegetable hints of green peas and fennel.
Palate
Like a mountain stream – swift, cool, unstoppable. This 2021 shows itself racy and robust with a fruity mid-palate, carried by fine phenolics. The progression is uncompromisingly linear, characterised by a tension that builds pressure without losing its vibrant energy. With only 2 g/l residual sugar at 7.2 g/l acidity, this is a Riesling of electrifying dryness and invigorating demand.
Finish
For minutes, the ethereal, vegetable aromatics linger – a finale that underscores the concentration and longevity of this extraordinary vintage.
Terroir & Origin
The Grand Cru vineyard site Furstentum in Kientzheim, first mentioned in 1330, offers south-facing limestone slopes that lend this Riesling its characteristic mineral signature. The vines planted in 1990 benefit from a terroir that unites precision and expression.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Riesling, fermented and aged in stainless steel. The wine matures on full lees and is bottled unfiltered – an uncompromising approach that preserves the purity of the vintage.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Crispy pan-fried zander with Riesling sauerkraut, char tartare with radishes and herb emulsion or steamed salsify with passion fruit and lentil falafel – this Riesling demands dishes that mirror its precision and herbal freshness.
Special Features
The 2021 vintage is compared in Alsace to the legendary 1996: a dry growing season with a wet June that produced wines of enormous fruit clarity with minimal sugar yield and fine acidity structure. A Riesling for purists with patience – this wine will live for decades.
