Wine Description for Riesling Furstentum Grand Cru 2019 from Domaine Albert Mann

Colour & Appearance
Medium straw yellow with brilliant clarity – a wine that visually hints at its maturity without drifting into golden tones.
Nose
Restrained yet multifaceted: orange blossom and linden blossom form a floral framework, interwoven with hints of pineapple and lemon. What fascinates are the stony and slightly earthy notes that lend this Grand Cru its unmistakable minerality. A wine that demands patience and rewards it.
Palate
Here the true class of Furstentum reveals itself: lively and saline, with a fine tannin structure that gives this Riesling unusual grip and silky texture. The fruit of ripe pineapple and lemons meets bitter orange peel and grapefruit – a balance between ripeness and freshness that recalls great white Burgundies. Juicy, fleshy, with impressive substance.
Finish
Long, intensely aromatic and carried by a saline minerality that lingers for minutes after swallowing. The fruit echoes without ever becoming intrusive.
Terroir & Origin
Furstentum lies near Kientzheim and ranks among the warmest Grand Cru vineyard sites in Alsace. The 30-year-old vines are rooted in limestone and limestone scree – a combination that gives this wine its characteristic minerality and structure. The terroir shapes this Riesling far more distinctly than the fruit.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Riesling, at 14% alcohol far from a lightweight representative of the variety, but rather a powerful, dry Grand Cru that explores the possibilities of this grape variety on warm limestone soils.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Its structure and salinity make it ideal for grilled lobster with Indian spices, cod fillet with spring vegetables or scallop carpaccio with kumquats. Also an excellent choice with robust fish dishes featuring Asian flavours.
Special Characteristics
A Riesling that defies conventional expectations: with tannin structure, texture and an almost Burgundian fullness. Impressively demonstrates what Grand Cru means in Alsace.
