Wine Description for Côte-Rotie „Tupin’s“ 2018 by Du Coulet

Colour & Appearance
Deep ruby red with violet reflections and a profound, black core – a visual promise of Northern Rhône Syrah elegance.
Nose
Wild and spice-driven, intoxicatingly fragrant: raspberries, blackberries and elderflower meld with juniper, black pepper, pimento and a whisper of smoke and iron. The aromatics shimmer like heat haze over summer tarmac – raw, authentic, captivating.
Palate
Here the true class of this Côte-Rôtie reveals itself: The tannin presents itself aristocratically – dense, fine-grained, tightly woven and possessed of a silkiness that caresses the palate. The red fruit follows clear and fresh, illuminating the tannin structure with precise brilliance. The acidity guides like a masterful brushstroke through this grand-scale Syrah canvas.
Finish
Long, spicy and carried by noble tannin – a finale that underscores the wine’s elegance with lasting effect.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes hail from the vineyard sites Tupins and Semons on the legendary Côtes Brune. Pure granite defines the subsoil and lends the wine its mineral tension and crystalline freshness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Syrah, fermented in stainless steel and aged for 15 months in Flextank eggs – entirely without oak ageing. This vinification preserves the vibrant, unadorned fruit and makes Tupin’s one of the rarest unoaked Côte-Rôties in existence.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Roasted aubergine with pomegranate dressing, yoghurt and toasted almonds; eel in red wine sauce; wood pigeon with Sauce Rouennaise and smoked beetroot.
Special Characteristics
A Côte-Rôtie that deliberately eschews oak and thereby places pure fruit and granite terroir centre stage – a bold, authentic interpretation of a great appellation classic.
