Info

Abélard comes from an idyllic vineyard on Mont Ventoux. After the hand harvest, the grapes are selected twice. The result is a fruit quality of superlatives. The cuvée consists of Grenache Noir and Syrah from old vines. The wine is matured in individual batches in small oak barrels for 18 months.

Color

Dense purple, light rim as well as violet reflexes with hints of the onset of maturity

Nose

On the nose, it shows its dark, deep side. 2013 Abélard reveals plenty of tomato, beetroot and darkest fruits. Blackberry, cassis and elderberry. A hint of redcurrant and raspberry adds support. White pepper sprays plenty of intense spice along with juniper. A little cubeb pepper and a good portion of liquorice then add additional ethereal accents. Delicately melting, dark chocolate as well as a nuance of roasted coffee beans are added as if on cue. It cannot even begin to deny its Mediterranean homeland. The characteristic garrigue is omnipresent. Olive, thyme, rosemary and almond blossom.

Palate

From the first sip, it clearly shows its strengths. The Ventoux thrives on strong, cooling winds. Its Mediterranean character is clearly kept in check. Pure finesse and elegance. It appears stony and elegant. The fruit is delicate and clearly more acidic. Far away from power and concentration. Silky, it envelops the palate. The vegetal notes of tomato, with plenty of spice and the earthy beetroot are completely unagitatedly recognisable on the palate. Absolutely harmonious and perfectly portioned. This wine from this origin could not taste better today. In addition, it is perfectly matured and absolutely harmonious. At the absolute drinking peak.
