Wine Description for Côte de Nuits Villages „Vieilles Vignes“ AOC 2023 by Charlopin Tissier

Character
This Côte de Nuits Villages from old vines embodies the classical elegance of northern Burgundy with the concentration and depth that only Vieilles Vignes can deliver. Charlopin-Tissier, a winery based in Gevrey-Chambertin, has mastered the art of crafting wines of remarkable precision from this often underestimated appellation – honest, terroir-driven and without unnecessary intervention.
Terroir & Origin
The AOC Côte de Nuits Villages encompasses vineyard sites at the northern and southern edges of the renowned Côte de Nuits, that legendary wine route between Dijon and Corgoloin. Here, on limestone-rich soils with variable exposure, Pinot Noir thrives with Burgundian finesse, albeit without the glamour of its Grand Cru neighbours. The designation „Vieilles Vignes“ refers to vines that, through their age, bring natural yield reduction and deeper root systems – factors that foster complexity and concentration.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir in its Burgundian homeland shows itself here presumably with the typical balance between red fruit, earthy notes and that silky texture which characterises the variety. The 2023 vintage, following a challenging summer, ultimately yielded healthy, aromatic grapes. At Charlopin-Tissier, one can expect a traditional vinification: gentle extraction, moderate oak use, respect for the fruit. The alcohol content of 13.5% vol. speaks to balance and drinkability, without excessive concentration.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A versatile table companion: Coq au Vin, duck breast with cherry sauce or aged Comté harmonise beautifully. Equally mushroom dishes, beef braised in red wine or a simple Boeuf Bourguignon. The wine’s structure and freshness make it an ideal partner for lamb rack with herb crust or game terrine.
