Wine Description for Cortado IGP 2024 by Majas
- Colour & Appearance
- Transparent, luminous ruby red, which already announces the lightness of this unconventional summer wine in the glass.
- Nose
- Delicate and refreshing, the Cortado presents itself with a bouquet of cherries, grenadine and wild strawberries. These are joined by cranberries, raspberries as well as fine notes of almonds and gianduja – an aromatic bridge between the fruitiness of Pinot Noir and the Mediterranean freshness of Vermentino.
- Palate
- Delightfully uncomplicated and juicy, this pale red summer wine reveals itself on the palate. Sour cherries, cranberries and redcurrants dominate the fresh fruit play. A hint of earth and pepper lends the wine depth without compromising its playful lightness. The agile acidity and round tannins harmonise perfectly at a moderate 11.5% alcohol. Elegant despite all its unpretentiousness – a delight when lightly chilled.
- Finish
- Fresh and fruity with lingering berry notes and fine spice.
- Terroir & Origin
- The vineyards are located near Caudiès de Fenouillèdes in Roussillon on clay-limestone soils with some slate. The approximately 20-year-old vines are harvested at a modest 40 hl/ha – quality over quantity.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- An unconventional yet successful 50/50 blend of Pinot Noir and Vermentino (Rolle). Hand-harvested, destemmed and spontaneously fermented separately by grape variety in stainless steel. The Pinot received four days of skin contact, the Vermentino was pressed directly. Blending before malolactic fermentation, ageing on fine lees in concrete without sulphites (minimal addition only at bottling). Bottled unfiltered.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Perfect with grilled tuna, salmon tartare, tomato and mozzarella salad, antipasti, charcuterie or simply as an uncomplicated terrace wine on warm summer evenings.
- Special Features
- A refreshingly different Roussillon wine that surprises with its unconventional grape variety combination and natural vinification. Serve lightly chilled!
