Wine description for Majas Orange VdF 2025 by Majas

Character
An Orange Wine from Roussillon that combines the Mediterranean power of the region with the aromatic finesse of Sauvignon Blanc. The skin contact imparts this wine with its characteristic amber hue and a structural complexity that far exceeds conventional white wines. Vinified dry, this represents a craft approach that unites tradition and experimentation.
Terroir & Origin
Roussillon, wedged between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean, offers a sun-blessed terroir with strong winds – the famous Tramontane – that ensure healthy grapes. The region is renowned for its mineral soils composed of slate and limestone. Classified as Vin de France, the winemaker enjoys maximum creative freedom, far removed from rigid appellation regulations – a typical hallmark of the natural wine movement, which is increasingly taking root here.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Sauvignon Blanc, normally known for its crisp freshness and citrus aromatics, reveals itself here in an entirely new light. Through skin contact during fermentation, the variety develops additional tannins and phenols that lend the wine structure and grip. Vinification as an Orange Wine transforms the typical green notes into more complex, spicy aromas – often with hints of apricot, nuts and herbs. The absence of or minimal use of sulphur underscores the natural approach.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Orange Wines are excellent food companions with surprising versatility. This wine pairs particularly well with grilled fish, bouillabaisse or brandade de morue – classic regional dishes. Also an outstanding choice with Moroccan tagines, roasted poultry or aged goat’s cheese. The tannin structure readily accommodates bolder flavours and even slightly fatty dishes.
