Iron-rich soils, Pannonian heat and cool east winds: the Eisenberg in southern Burgenland produces dramatic wines. Clemens Krutzler interprets this terroir with surprising lightness. While his father, with the legendary Perwolff, ranks among the icons of Austrian Blaufränkisch, the fifth generation relies on low intervention and natural yeasts. Since 2020 his CK line has shown wines of striking freshness. The CK Mash-Up, an orange wine from Blaufränkisch AND Welschriesling, is pure experiment.

More about Clemens Krutzler
When the Eisenberg meets a delicate touch
The name Eisenberg does not deceive: iron-rich soils mark the wines from the first sip. Yet while this mineral power often leads to heavy, tannic reds, Clemens Krutzler conjures from it remarkably dancing Blaufränkisch. His low-intervention philosophy of natural yeasts and gentle extraction lets the terroir speak without overwhelming it. The CK Blaufränkisch 2022 shows this signature perfectly: precise, lively, with a freshness that elegantly plays around the iron-rich subsoil.

Orange wine revolution: the legendary CK Mash-Up
A love of experiment is systematic at Clemens Krutzler. His CK Mash-Up breaks every rule: Blaufränkisch and Welschriesling are fermented together on the skins, an orange wine that puts both grape varieties in an entirely new light. This variable maceration time and the ageing sur lie create textures and aromas that surprise even experienced sommeliers. The CK Mash-Up 2023 is pure curiosity in a bottle, and a statement for the new Austrian orange wine scene.
Microclimate as a natural thermostat

The Pannonian microclimate between Deutsch-Schützen and Eisenberg plays perfectly into Clemens's hands. While the heat of the day develops intense aromas, cool winds from eastern Styria bring the necessary freshness. This natural swing in temperature preserves the acid structure that makes his wines so lively. The same climatic balance shows in the whites too: the CK Welschriesling 2023 combines southern generosity with Alpine freshness.
A change of generation, with respect and revolution
While colleagues such as Roland Velich of Moric have taken the powerful Blaufränkisch style of Burgenland to perfection, Clemens chooses a different path. He farms his 12 hectares with the greatest possible restraint, sustainability-certified since 2020 and by now also organic-certified. The CK line does not compete with his father Reinhold's legendary Perwolff but adds an entirely new dimension of elegance to the estate.
