Wine Description for Chiaretto Riviera del Garda Classico DOC 2025 by Marangona
- Colour & Appearance
- Delicate salmon pink, pale and luminous – lighter than a Provence rosé, with the typical restraint of a true Chiaretto.
- Nose
- Rose petals and peppermint open the bouquet, followed by wild strawberries, raspberries and a hint of chamomile. Behind that, fresh hay and a whisper of brioche dough. No candy rosé – rather a basket of wildflowers beside a wood-fired oven.
- Palate
- Light, dry and saline. Crushed strawberry, sour cherry, orange zest and wild vineyard peach. The crisp acidity drives the wine forward, whilst a mineral core provides structure and length. On the finish, a saline note reminiscent of the breeze from the lake. Uncomplicated, yet not simple.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Blend of Groppello (50%), Marzemino (30%), Barbera and Sangiovese (10% each) – four indigenous or regionally typical varieties, as prescribed by the DOC. Direct pressing, free-run juice only. Spontaneous fermentation and maturation in stainless steel. Approximately 4,000 bottles per vintage. Certified organic.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Aperitif on the terrace. Antipasti, sushi, grilled vegetables, Lake Garda sardines. Also a reliable companion to light pasta with tomato sauce or bruschetta. Serve chilled: 8–10°C.
- Special Features
- 92 points Wine Enthusiast (2019). Chiaretto is the oldest rosé wine tradition on Lake Garda – documented here since the 19th century. Groppello, the signature variety, grows almost exclusively on the western shore of the lake.
